Welcome

I’ve got Richmond on my mind.

Not the leafy West London borough, nor even the capital of Virginia, but the 19th century pugilist Bill Richmond —  a man who was born into slavery in the USA and became the first Black person to achieve national fame in Britain.

I’m writing a play about him (a play with songs, no less) and am also deep into a narrative poem intended as a kind of lyrical journey through his life.

It’s all-consuming, but – for me, at least – fascinating, and I hope that the fruits of my endeavours will be appearing soon on theatrical stages, and cultural spaces, in London and beyond.

This is the place to pick up the latest tidbits from my research about Richmond, and read about  developments in these and my other projects.

This, and on my Twitter feed of course.

Thanks for visiting. Tally-ho !!
